Me-Can project was initiated in 2006 as a pooled cohort study (see the map) with the aim to investigate metabolic factors in relation to cancer risk. The pooled data included around 580,000 individuals and 36,000 incident cancers. The Me-Can 1.0 collaboration resulted in 27 peer-reviewed articles published between 2009 and 2015.
In 2015, Me-Can received funding to extend cohort information and registry linkages. Data were ready to use in February 2017. Me-Can 2.0 studies of the full population include around 814,000 participants and 84,000 incident cancer cases. Several studies are ongoing.
